Missions
Lenexa UMC has a rich history of being generous to those in need. Following in Christ's footsteps, it's a priority for us to provide donations of food, clothing, health supplies, school supplies, cash and service to those in need. There are many ways to reach out to those within our neighborhoods, as well as across the state of Kansas, throughout the nation, and even abroad.
Some of our more "specific" mission efforts include:

- Providing food, clothing, service and other resources to the Johnson County Multi-Service Center. We have on-going collection bins at church and make weekly trips to the Center with donations

- Yarn Ministries - prayer shawls, hats (baby and adult), and baby booties are made throughout the year and given to those in need. To date, we have given these special items to people within our community, Hospice patients, and people touched by United Methodist Ministries across the United States and Africa. The Prayer Shawl Ministry group meets in the Library every Tuesday at 10am but you can always make these on your own to bring to church!!
- Tutoring children at Sunflower Elementary School.
- Annual Community Health Fair in the spring.
- Blood Drives are held several times a year at Lenexa UMC in cooperation with the Community Blood Center in Kansas City. Save a life...donate blood!
- PEANUTS Workcamps (People Experiencing A New Understanding Through Service). We have several groups, from middle school to adult, that participate in this hands-on ministry.
- Hot Lunch Service – a hot meal provided the first Friday in January, May and October each year to those who live in poverty in Kansas City, Kansas.

- Donations of gently worn shoes, backpacks, and coats to those in need.
- School Supplies collections during August and September.
- Used Eyeglasses for the Lion's Club, as well as global ministry needs.
- Annual fall Bishop's "Round-Up for Hunger".
- Card Ministry - this team sends beautiful handmade cards of support and encouragement to people for a variety of needs, inclduing those serving our country in the military and people who are ill.
- Creation and delivery of Christmas Shoeboxes for children in need through the Johnson County Multi-Service Center, and sponsoring families in need.
- Missionaries – We support Dr. Jay Charles Soper (who grew up at Lenexa UMC) and his wife Mary Luz and son Harry, who live and minister in Bogotá, Colombia. We also support Job and Grace Mkama, a missionary team in Tanzania who work with Faith Tabernacle International.
- Pastors' Discretionary Fund – this fund provides support for many in need in our church and surrounding community throughout the year. Donations are always appreciated. We also have unique and fun ways throughout the year to help replenish this Fund.
