Missions
Lenexa UMC has a rich history of being generous to those in need. Following in Christ's footsteps, it's a priority for us to provide donations of food, clothing, health supplies, school supplies, cash and service to those in need. There are many ways to reach out to those within our neighborhoods, as well as across the state of Kansas, throughout the nation, and even abroad.
Some of our more "specific" mission efforts include:
- Providing food, clothing, service and other resources to the Johnson County Multi-Service Center. We have on-going collection bins at church and make weekly trips to the Center with donations
- PEANUTS Workcamps (People Experiencing A New Understanding Through Service). We have several groups, from middle school to adult, that participate in this hands-on ministry.
- Hot Lunch Service – a hot meal provided the first Friday in Janaury, May and Octorber each year to those who live in poverty in Kansas City, Kansas.
- Donations of gently worn shoes and coats to those in need.
- School Supplies collections during August and September.
- Annual fall Bishop's Round-up for Hunger.
- Creation and delivery of Christmas Shoeboxes for children in need through the Johnson County Multi-Service Center.
- Missionaries – We support Dr. Jay Charles Soper (who grew up at Lenexa UMC) and his wife Mary Luz and son Harry, who live and minister in Bogotá, Colombia. We also support Job and Grace Mkama, a missionary team in Tanzania who work with Faith Tabernacle International.
- Pastor's Discretionary Fund – this fund provides support for many in need in our church and surrounding community throughout the year.
