Kids Stuff!

Get excited for some new things happening this Fall for kids!

"Messy Stories from the Bible" will be our new theme for lessons at J.A.M. (Jesus And Me) starting September 15!! Come experience them through Science and Cooking experiments from 6:30 - 7:30pm opposite Kid's Choir Practice!!

There is a new program starting led by Jessica Boyd. It is called "Spirit in Motion" and will involve music, DRAMA, and LOTS of motion and fun!!! That will be on Wednesday nights too, time to be announced soon!

On Sunday mornings there are Sunday School opportunities for kids at both 9 and 10:30am. Kid's Kingdom (1st-6th grade) meets at 9am on the 2nd floor of the Education Building. This is a rotational Sunday School that offers a multi-sensory approach to learning stories from the Bible. Kids Pre-K and Kindergarten meet in E119 for the "LIVE BIG" series. At 10:30, kids pre-K thru 2nd grade meet in Room E119 for the "Bible Zone" Sunday School, while 3rd-6th graders meet in E211 for the LIVE BIG KIDS Sunday School.

Create With Spirit

Join this creative group as it continues to meet the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of each month at 7pm. Bring whatever craft/art project you are working on (or finishing up!!). Meetings are very casual and we've been reading Mitch Albom's, "Have a Little Faith", while participants work on a variety of projects.

Right now, we are especially focusing on making "Prayer Shawls". Founders of shawlministry.com, Janet Bristow and Victoria Cole-Galo stated: "Prayer shawls become tangible symbols of love when words can't be found to adequately express one's feelings. They can be warm hugs of happiness, empathy, and support; a private place of escape in which to rest, relax and renew; something to hold on to when all else seems to be slipping away. Wrapping another in a shawl knit of your own prayers and loving thoughts is a gift not only for the one receiving the shawl but for yourself as well. ...prayer begins in the heart....so it's important to set an environment of intention, or purpose, as you begin." Prayer shawls certainly can be made at home and brought to church. An area hospice has asked our support in making these shawls that they may also share. They are being collected in the Missions Nook outside the Church Office.

Fall 2010 Classes and Activities

Fall is an exciting time at church! There are many opportunities to get involved...whether it be with a children's group, adult vocal or bell choir, the youth group, a Sunday School class, exploring a caring ministry such as Stephen Ministry, participating in a Wednesday night meal and activity, helping with worship, volunteering in the community, or lending a hand in the church office or with church maintenance...there's something for everyone!

Be sure to read the August Messenger newsletter to get an idea of classes and groups. These include Sunday School for all ages, the all-church "Transformed Living" book and classes on Sundays and Tuesday mornings(September 7 - October 17), the 6am Monday  Morning Quarterback group that meets at Coffee Bay (103rd and Pflumm), Faithfully Fit Forever exercise group (Tuesday & Thursdays at  6pm) or yoga (Thursdays at 7pm), Create With Spirit art group (1st and 3rd Tuesdays at 7pm), or volunteering with kids at Bonjour Elementary School...you'll be sure to find your niche! Where is the Spirit calling you?

Health Fair

Many people in the community showed up for the 3-day Health Fair we sponsored in May, 2010. We had hundreds of volunteers (without their help the event couldn't have been possible). Medical professionals gave out literature, provided health screenings and education, and local businesses provided yummy food each day of the fair. The Fair is a model of Denver's 9 Health Fair, intended to reach out to the community, providing affordable health screenings and information. Protection Policy Training is September 26

A VERY important Protection Policy Training (Safe and Sacred Spaces) has been rescheduled from February 21 - it will take place in the Wesley Room from 5-7:30pm on Sunday, September 26.

It is imperative with your work with children, youth and/or adults with disabilities that you go through such training every FIVE years as a fulfillment of our policy adopted by Lenexa United Methodist Church and the Kansas East Conference of the United Methodist Church. If you received your certification before, please check the expiration date of it to see if you are up e-certification again.

This training will cover any local and conference church events, as well as Scouting events that you may be helping with - on or off church property. On the day of the training, you will be asked to fill out an SRS (Social services for state of Kansas) form and a KBI (Kansas Bureau of Investigation) form, so it is important you have your Social Security number with you!

You may go to www.kansaseast.org...then link to the Safe and Sacred Spaces to print off the Worker Packet ahead of time. Do NOT fill out the Clergy reference form. All necessary forms will be available at the workshop as well.

A light snack will be provided; childcare will be provided but let us know ahead of time if you'll need this. Please RSVP to: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
